Letter to Councillors

We have now written to our Councillors and told them the following:

the School entered into negotiations with GOALS only a few years ago and when this did not come about, our Association met with the Head, Jeremy Waxman.    This meeting was held solely to explain and discuss  an alternative way of achieving better facilities for the pupils with the support of the local community.  We were ready to start a fund raising campaign in conjunction with the school to achieve those aims.   However, we heard nothing further from the School.  Then last month, during the Christmas holidays, we received a note from Lucozade Powerleague notifying us of a Drop-In Session with just weeks to inform the community over this major holiday period.

We have already received almost 100 very strong objections plus those that have sent objections direct to the School and Powerleague.   I would emphasise that this is not 100 signatures on a petition, but 100 individually written letters that clearly show that the community is very much opposed to this proposal.

It is in a totally unsuitable location;  as you know, the area has some sensitively occupied buildings with vulnerable and  elderly people’s homes backing onto the school’s playing fields where this installation is proposed.    From the point of view of Roe Green Village, this is a conservation area, which sometimes I do wonder if the councillors fully appreciate this fact and understand or even fully know the history behind the Village.   If you did, you would appreciate that an installation of the kind being proposed, could totally damage this whole area.

The people involved in this project and those in the school, including Mr Waxman and many of the pupils, do not live in the area and when they go home, it will only be the residents in the area that will suffer.

We are always open to speak to the School and have always expressed our support for them, as we agree they need updated equipment but to do it at the expense of their neighbours, is not the right way.

Will the Councillors, give us 100% support to the residents of Queensbury as mentioned in a recent leaflet, or back the money-makers of Powerleague?
